Dr Freek Janssens is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Geography. Trained as an anthropologist and urban sociologist, Freek has conducted ethnographic fieldwork in public marketplaces in London, Amsterdam and Istanbul, where he focused on conflict and social change in the context of what he calls 'ethical urbanism'. Currently, Freek works in the Queer Memorials (QMem) research project, where he investigates the politics of identity and diversity in urban public space.
